- There will be crying, but that doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. You can cry too. That also doesn’t mean there’s something wrong.
- You will make mistakes. Don’t take it personally, the journey of motherhood is paved with mistakes. It’s how we learn and grow to be better, not perfect, but better.
- You don’t need the best gadgets money can buy. Less is more. All they need is you.
- You will be tired but don’t worry, you will sleep again. Then they will not sleep again and then they will again. It’s normal and you’ll get through it. You will not die.
- Do what’s right for you. Everyone is going to have an opinion on what and when you should do things but keep in mind that’s just what worked for them. You’ll figure out what works for you. All kids eventually grow up, whether we like it or not.
- Your body is beautiful. Your body was never lost. It supported you through pregnancy and labor. Love your body. It is the temple of life. If you didn’t birth your baby, then your body is a safe place. Your arms hold healing hugs.
- Ask for help when you need it. There is no trophy in doing everything yourself and if people offer help, take them up on it. They want to help you.
- Take care of yourself physically and mentally. If you feel depressed, call your doctor. If you feel happy, share it with someone you love. Take long showers when you can and rest when you can.
- Trust your gut. If you think you need to take your child to the doctor, give them a blanket, take away a blanket, feed them again, whatever it may be, that’s your mother’s intuition kicking in. Do what feels right to you.
- It’s going to be hard, but I promise you it will be worth it.
